“The Comin' o' the Irish”
These things I warmly wish for you-
Someone to love,
some work to do,
A bit o' sun,
A bit o' cheer
And a guardian angel
Always near.♣
Our history has been told many times through the eyes of the English,
German and Scottish immigrants who settled here in the
19th century. Little has been said
about the Irish who left the "Old Sod" in search of freedom from
oppression and a better life for themselves and their families. The
Irish survived the brutal rules of the British and the starvation
brought about by the potato famine. They never lost their love of
country, their love of heritage and their love of a good story. Who can
keep from tapping their feet when an Irish jig is lilting through the
air?
Many could not escape the poverty they found in the big cities in the
east, but those who found their way west helped tame the wilderness and
made a good life for themselves.
The story of General George McClure, Bernard Healy, the Farrell family,
Michael Mahoney and many others will be told during this new look at our
history in Dundee Township.
If you have ancestors from Ireland please come and share the stories of your heritage with us.
There is no fee for this program. Donations are greatly appreciated.

Please join us as we learn the little known history of "Tower Hill School for Boys."
